It's hard to believe that San Diego State University had never won a single game in the NCAA tournament (although they've made many tournament appearances over the years)... Until yesterday. It was a long-time-coming, but they finally pulled it off. Steve Fisher's Aztecs didn't play their best game of the season, but they were able to pull together in the second half of their Thursday afternoon game (against the Northern Colorado Bears at McKale Center in Tucscon, AZ), and ended up cruising to an 18-point victory (68-50). According to Steve Fisher, their goal all season has been to win their very first NCAA Tournament game, and it's inspiring to see them achieve that goal. It hasn't been an easy road (Fisher has been SDSU's basketball coach for 12 seasons already), but so far this year they are making winning look easy. I can tell you that I am very excited to see how much further they can go with this team. They face a more difficult opponent, Temple, tomorrow at 3:10pm (the game will be aired on TNT). Temple escaped their first game of the tournament with a buzzer-beating, game winning shot (to win by two points).
