Located just a few miles from downtown San Diego, Hillcrest is an eclectic, alternative lifestyle-friendly neighborhood known for its walkability and its plethora of nightclubs, restaurants, and coffee shops. In 2007, it was named one of the top ten greatest neighborhoods in America by the American Planning Association.
There are a lot of things to love about Hillcrest - here are my top three!
1. Hillcrest Farmers Market
San Diego has a different farmers market for every day of the week, but the Hillcrest Sunday Farmers Market is the largest and most popular. Come first thing in the morning to grab a cup of fair-trade or nitro coffee and choose your breakfast from over a dozen food stalls - everything from crepes and croissants to tacos, oysters, Korean bibimbap, and Polish pierogi. Then stock up for dinner with locally grown produce, pasture-raised meats and farm-fresh eggs, fresh cheese and cured meats, and freshly baked breads and pastries. Try something new, like sprouted hummus (the cilantro-jalapeno is a personal favorite!) or gourmet flavored sea salt. Don’t forget to pick up a bouquet of fresh flowers!
University Avenue and Fifth Avenue are lined with one-of-a-kind boutiques. From vintage clothing at Flashbacks Recycled Fashion to customizable furniture at Urban Fusion Decor and home decor at Creative Crossroads, to vintage books at Bluestocking Books and records at Record City, this neighborhood is perfect for an afternoon of unique window shopping.
3. Location, Location, Location!
If you want to feel right in the heart of it all, but still be outside of the downtown hustle and bustle, Hillcrest is the perfect place for you! While there’s plenty to do in the neighborhood to keep you busy, Hillcrest is just a short drive away from many of San Diego’s other most popular areas, including Little Italy, Seaport Village, the Gaslamp District, and North Park. Plus, getting to and from San Diego International Airport is a breeze. If urban hiking is your thing, you can walk to Balboa Park or check out one of the many historic bridges scattered throughout the canyons.
Hillcrest offers a range of property styles, from classic San Diego architecture to ultra-modern condos with all the amenities. If Hillcrest sounds like the right fit for you, contact me today!
